How do I know if my prescription is single vision or progressive?

Normally when a prescription is given to you by a doctor they specify what type of prescription you need. If you need a single vision pair of glasses the doctor would write either distance or near. If the lenses that the doctor prescribed are progressive, it would say it on the prescription.
